"Pool" together— Keep On With Earth Hour Spirit!

'Earth Hour 2011' was a major success once again! This year, 250 million people in Hong Kong took part, together with people in more than 134 countries around the world. But the symbolic action of switching off the lights for one hour is just a beginning — we have to go beyond the hour and consume wisely from now on, so that planet Earth continues to thrive in a sustainable way!

To promote the Earth Hour spirit, a fun and interactive platform is now available on-line — the 'Earth Hour Pool'! 'Pooling' means that we share our resources and reduce consumption at the same time.  For example, if you must take a taxi, why not create a 'Taxi Pool' with your colleagues or friends? Not only can you save money this way, but you will also reduce carbon emissions and gas consumption! Or what about watching the same programme with other family members in the living room together? Click here to create your own pool now!

The Earth Hour photo competition is now finished — thanks to all for your support! The winning photo is now available as the base photo of the mosaic platform for everyone to upload their shots. Show your support now! The on-line mosaic platform is sponsored by Canon Hongkong Company Ltd.

The Standard Chartered Hong Kong 150th Anniversary Community Foundation is the lead sponsor of Earth Hour in Hong Kong for two consecutive years.

Sending out a low-carbon message in the community

WWF believes that low-carbon living should start with individuals. However, with that said, it's always good to spread an environmentally-friendly message from one person to the whole community. In March, a group of Climateers did their first trial and organised the "Low-carbon Community Initiatives" programme in Sai Kung and Wan Chan districts. If you want to know how to practice low-carbon living in terms of transport and diet, then click here to view the footage!

First sustainable seafood menu in the western-style dining scene

For years, WWF has been encouraging the public and restaurants in Hong Kong to consume sustainable seafood according to WWF's Sustainable Seafood Guide.

We are pleased to inform you that FINDS, a stylish Nordic restaurant, has become the first western-cuisine restaurant in Hong Kong to join WWF's Ocean-Friendly Menu programme.

The FINDS Sustainable Seafood Signatures menu chooses salmon, herring and blue mussels from sustainable sources. Incorporating sustainable seafood into fine dining provides customers with an extraordinary dining experience and the opportunity to help conserve the oceans at the same time!
