Climateers Experiential Programme launching special editions to Sai Kung and Wan Chai districts

The 2010 Climateers Experiential Programme successfully trained many Climateers Ambassadors to promote low carbon living among their peers.

Marching into 2011, WWF has partnered with the Environmental Protection Department to create a special edition of the programme, tailor-made for Sai Kung and Wan Chai districts. The programme will include a series of seminars on climate issues, field trips to the Mai Po Nature Reserve and a planning competition on how to promote “low carbon action in the community.” The programme also encourages the ambassadors to think about how they can influence people in their neighbourhood.

WWF welcomes anyone who is 15 or older living in the Sai Kung district (including Tseung Kwan O) and the Wan Chai District (including Causeway Bay) to join this free programme. Due to limited space, all applications will be processed on a first come, first served basis. Registration deadline is 10 January, 2011. Sign up now!

Be an environmental watchdog! Report to CitizenMap

WWF has long carried out an environmental watchdog role in the territory with considerable success. And now, we are glad to introduce you a new channel so that you can join us in protecting Hong Kong's biodiversity and natural landscapes. If you have ever come across any illegal dumping, unauthorized development, vegetation removal or similar occurrences, don't hesitate to report them NOW!

CitizenMap is the first mapping site of its kind in Hong Kong, providing citizens with an open platform to actively report environmental incidents around them. The project is an initiative of the South China Morning Post, aiming to offer Hong Kong residents a collective voice by aggregating local citizen reports, Hong Kong community media and other relevant news and information.

Both individuals and groups are welcome to contribute to the site. WWF will submit and share our expertise input to the map. For details, please visit: www.scmp.com/citizenmap

Actions speak louder than words – eat to save the tigers!

We're nearing the end of the Year of the Tiger, and no effort has been spared in our global tiger conservation campaign. Now, you can contribute to tiger conservation simply by… eating!

On 12 January 2011, the entire day's sales from all PizzaExpress restaurants on Hong Kong Island and Kowloon (except for the Airport) will be used to support WWF's Tiger conservation programmes in China. PizzaExpress will also host two 'Save Tigers Now' pizza-making parties* to educate their Junior Club members on ways to save the tiger.

You can make a difference in helping to double the number of tigers in the wild by 2022. Make sure this Year of the Tiger is not the last.

* The two pizza making parties for members of PizzaExpress Junior Club will be held on 22 January and 29 January at two different PizzaExpress restaurants (Wan Chai and Tsim Sha Shui respectively).
