WWF is working hard to bring you more sustainable seafood choices
According to the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization, the average Hong Kong person consumed 71.6kg of seafood in 2009, the second-highest ranking in Asia. But humankind's insatiable appetite for seafood has done and is continuing to do great damage to our marine environment, through overfishing and other threats.
By exercising their considerable consumer power, Hong Kong people can aid the recovery of the world's depleted oceans. Bringing more sustainable seafood choices to the market will only speed up this process. To facilitate this, in September, WWF-Hong Kong will organize The 3rd Sustainable Seafood Business Seminar, and will sponsor the "10th International Seafood Summit", which, for its first time to be held in Hong Kong. The goal of both gatherings is to provide a forum for professionals in the seafood industry and other stakeholders to discuss better sourcing methods and other ways of obtaining and providing sustainable seafood.
