Hong Kong generates only 0.1 per cent of its electricity from renewable sources. The government has set an unambitious renewable energy target of three to four per cent. The government and power companies must increase the share of imported and local renewable energy in our generation and enhance energy efficiency to improve air quality and tackle climate change. The government has set targets for to reduce carbon emissions between 2005 and 2030, but we lag far behind other developed economies and cities.

We urge the government and the power companies to adopt these recommendations:

- Government should set an objective of supplying 10% of electricity from renewable sources to inspire people and businesses to buy and generate Green power.

FiT should be accompanied by suitable policy measures to make the process of system installation easy and provide investors with reasonable payback periods.
