Act NOW! Speak for the Sea!
The government recently launched a public engagement exercise on "Enhancing Land Strategy", casually recommending reclamation as a solution to Hong Kong's land shortage. It lists 25 possible reclamation sites, including some of our most valuable ecologically important areas.
WWF believes reclamation should only be carried out as a last resort, as it is incredibly damaging to the environment and irreversible. We are deeply concerned about the use of reclamation to increase land supply without fully exploring other options, such as optimising redevelopment of old urban areas and better use of land resources. WWF objects to the proposal of reclaiming the sea just to enhance land supply without thorough planning.
